It takes a colony to run a hive and Discovery Gateway is no exception! To give our visitors the best experience possible, we need some hardworking and passionate people. People like Juan Rios and Sawyer Wood.
Juan Rios is an Admissions Specialist for Discovery Gateway. Juan keeps the admissions desk in check by coordinating and supervising the admissions staff. Some of his other duties include managing memberships and being the face of the museum by providing the best customer service possible! Juan does this to maintain museum standards, so everyone can have the best experience. His favorite part about working at Discovery Gateway is observing how the kids learn through the exhibits and how you can see their growth of knowledge. “I think it’s great when kids come up and show me what they have built!” Juan’s favorite exhibit is the STEAM Studio’s Earthquake Simulator. “I love it because the kids have to really focus and use their knowledge to make a structure that will withstand an earthquake. It connects the real world to their world and lets them understand how it works.” When Juan is not working at Discovery Gateway, he likes to spend his time practicing photography and dancing.
Sawyer Wood is another important piece of the Discovery Gateway puzzle! Sawyer is a Full-Time Admissions Facilitator. He is the first friendly face that greets you when you walk in the door and helps visitors check in, answers inquiries about the museum, and sets up our visitors to know about our events going on in the museum. Sawyer loves knowing that he is doing something good for children by bringing them joy and seeing them explore the museum. His favorite exhibit is the Intermountain Healthcare Saving Lives exhibit because it contains a real helicopter that kids can experience and understand what an actual helicopter looks like. When he’s not helping visitors, Sawyer enjoys acting and writing, especially novels!
