About

The “Creative Works: Young Artists’ Gallery” is an exhibition designed to encourage creative pursuits in children and provide them with an opportunity to showcase their art. The goal of this program is to highlight the many talented children in Utah and nurture their imagination.

Eligibility

“Creative Works: Young Artists’ Gallery” is open to all children in the state of Utah from ages 3-13. Each child may submit one entry. Work needs to have been completed within the past year.

Entries must be original works in the following categories:

  • 2D, including painting, drawing, mixed media, collage, photography, printing and graphic arts
  • 3D including sculpture, pottery, textile or wood arts, jewelry, mixed media or found objects.

Frames or mounting is preferred for all accepted 2D pieces. All 3D works are preferred to be sturdy or mounted upon a firm backing.

Selection process

A committee will meet the week of April 8, 2021 to select pieces for the “Creative Works: Young Artist’s Gallery” show. The committee will make their selections based upon originality, artistic merit and creativity. Applicants will be sent an email by April 14, 2021 letting them know if their work has been selected.

Awards

All selections will be entered into a lottery for prizes. The top piece in each age range (3-4, 5-7, 8-10, 11-13) will receive a prize.

Entry Fee

This year, the fee is pay-what-you-can and will be submitted through Discovery Gateway Children’s Museums donation page. The suggested donation is $10 per application.

Entry Procedure

  • Submit application by April 8, 2021. All applications must contain an image of the artwork. Applications can be submitted via online form or as a paper copy delivered to the museum. Artwork that has the best chance of being accepted are pieces that have been photographed with the best possible lighting, resolution and representation of the completed piece.
  • Pieces that are selected for exhibition will require a completed agreement form with the child’s information and signed by the parent/guardian.
  • By entering your artwork into this competition, you agree that an image of that artwork can be used across Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum webpage and social media sites.

Conditions

  • Works must be finished, dry and ready for installation.
  • All accepted entries will be considered temporary loans to Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum and shall remain in its possession for the duration of the exhibition. No early withdrawals will be permitted.
  • Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum cannot be held responsible for minor wear and tear resulting from normal handling.
  • Artwork may be posted on Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum’s website, social media channels, reports, etc.
  • Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum will insure exhibited work until June 2, 2021. Artwork must be picked up during posted dates and hours. Any artwork not picked up by June 6, 2021 will be considered a donation to Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum.
  • Each piece of art will subject to the jury process and be selected on its merit, quality and appropriateness of subject matter. There is no guarantee that any given piece or artist will be automatically be accepted into the show.
  • The submission of your entry shall be understood to indicate your agreement with the terms and conditions set forth in the application.

Receiving

Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum will notify parents if their child’s piece has been accepted on April 14, 2021. Accepted pieces must be delivered to the museum by 6:00PM on April 17, 2021. Pieces can be dropped off during normal operating hours.

Pick-Up

Artwork can be picked up starting on June 2, 2021 during normal operating hours. All artwork must be picked up by June 6, 2021 at 6:00PM. Accommodations may be made to pick up at a different time at least 24 hours in advance and dependent upon staff availability. Any artwork that has not been picked up by June 14, 2021 will be considered a donation to Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum.
