Rangoli Art for Diwali Festival of Lights!
Celebrate Diwali Festival of Lights at Discovery Gateway! One of the most popular festivals of Hinduism, Diwali symbolizes the spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance. This colourful folk art from India uses coloured rice, flour, sand, salt or even flower petals to create patterns on the ground. These patterns are created year round for good luck, but they are especially popular for festivals and holidays. We will be making ours out of colored salt and glue!
Materials Needed:
- Salt
- Chalk
- Paper with a Pattern
- Glue
Once you have all the supplies that you need, pour some salt on a plate, and rub it with the chalk until it turns a bright colour. Make as many colours as you’d like! Then, draw or print out a fun pattern and apply glue to where you would like any color! Take the colored salt and sprinkle it in the areas where you want. Once you are all done, simple pour off the excess salt and let it dry!
This fun activity is great to do with your family, or with us this Friday the 25th from 3 – 6pm during our Diwali Celebration!
