Discovery Gateway’s early childhood program advocates for early childhood learning through play by developing programs and integrating exhibits in which children learn best, become socially skilled, and emotionally healthy. The early childhood program has a variety of classes developed around the whole child it offers, for example, Music in Motion, Time for Tots, Creative Kids, Little Scientist, and lastly Dollars and Cents each week. We’re honored to highlight this week our Early Childhood Educator, Jennifer Terry. If you’ve walked through Kids Eye View or even stopped into her class held in the Curiosity Shop you know she is the most positive and radiant educator we have. Jennifer is full of creative ideas and works well with all children. Learn more about our amazing educators below and get to know them in their weekly classes.
What is your role at Discovery Gateway? I am the early childhood educator.
Have you worked with children before? I have worked with children for over 7 years in various settings, as a preschool teacher, a childcare teacher at Kearns Recreation Center and as a recess aide for Jordan School District.
What do you like to do on your free time? Graphic design. I have an associate degree in graphic design from Salt Lake Community College.
What is your teaching philosophy? My philosophy is to speak to children as though they are small adults. Treat them with patience, kindness and as though they are just as knowledgeable as any adult. Listen when they have something to say because many times if you don’t; you’ll miss something very important.
