Discovery Gateway Opens New Exhibit

November 3, 2021--- Salt Lake City, Utah---Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum (DGCM) has opened a new exhibit—A Victorian-inspired house.

Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum transformed and doubled the size one of its previously beloved and popular exhibits, a child’s size house located inside the museum.

“Our inspiration was based on a few of the beautiful Victorian houses located in the Avenues here in Salt Lake City,” said Executive Director and CEO Kathleen Bodenlos. “We wanted to delight children and inspire their creativity with this newly reimagined exhibit.”

The existing exhibit underwent significant renovations. The size of the structure was doubled, an upstairs loft/bedroom was added along with new staircase, a working fireplace was installed, two secret passageways were added, a new kitchen was installed complete with child sized appliances and a small garden was added along with a picket fence. The charming Victorian home overlooks the indoor park exhibit that also recently received a brand-new mural of Sugar House Park painted by a local artist, Kyle Loizos.

The reopening was celebrated with a ribbon cutting ceremony at an event called Night at the Museum. “Our goal is to continually refresh the children’s museum in order to keep it an exciting place for children and parents to return to--again and again--to learn, play and dream,” said the CEO Kathleen Bodenlos.

Renovations were made possible by the generosity of the University Federal Credit Union.
