Astronaut Boot Camp!

Astronaut Celebration!
Ages 2 and up

Did you know your child can get letters from current astronauts? If you send a letter (or a card!) along with a self-addressed and stamped envelope, then NASA will send you a response! Simply send your mail to

Earlier this week the famous Kelly twins celebrated their birthday. Mark and Scott Kelly are both astronauts. In order to aid space research, the identical twins participated in a fascinating study to better understand the impacts of space on the human body. While Scott went to space, his brother Mark stayed on Earth. Scientists were able to gather data about how space impacted Scott Kelly, and these results will help ensure that humans can do long term space flights safely in the future.

Of course there are a lot of famous astronauts. Check out this list here or do some research on your own. Then you can make a card to celebrate your favorite astronaut or to send to NASA with your space questions.

It’s Black History Month!
Each of our STEAM Learning Labs this month will highlight an important figure in Black History.  While Astronauts are famous explorers who help chart space, Benjamin Banneker was a famous explorer in 18th century America. Read all about him here.
