STEAM Learning Lab – Artsy Thursday

We are excited to work with the UMFA to showcase one of their current art exhibits, Beyond the Divide: Merchant, Artist, Samurai in Edo Japan. Even though the museum is closed, you can still check out the exhibit online. Today, they are going to teach about us the history of Japanese folding screens and show us how to make a fun paper screen.

This week we are participating in Week of The Young Child (WOYC). WOYC is a national celebration hosted by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), and invites parents, teachers and caregivers to spend the week focusing on early learning opportunities. This year we have moved the celebration online and are delighted to be joined by five guest organizations. STEAM Learning Lab – Music Monday

Today is Music Monday, and we will be making a simple musical instrument. We are also joined by Hello Music. Hello Music offers family-style classes in the museum with a focus on teaching young children. Today, they are offering a free music class that you can do at home.

Thanks for participating in our virtual Bunny Hop! Today we are going to do some fancy food art. So many of the items in our kitchen have an interesting shape or color and other items can be sliced into any shape you want. Take some time to notice the shape, texture and color of the items we are using today. Once you are all done, you will have a yummy treat!

Happy April Fools’ Day! Did you know that your own eyes can play tricks on you? While the retina of your eye can perceive visual changes pretty fast, images linger for around one-tenth to one-twentieth of a second. This is called the “persistence of vision.” Making a Thaumatrope is a way to trick your own eyes by blurring 2 images together!

Illuminate Kids Lab
