The Premier Children’s Museum
"It is never too early to introduce your child to the transformative experiences museums offer. Instill in your child art, nature, and science at an early age and develop a curious mind for life."
– Kathleen Bodenlos, Executive Director/CEO
Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum’s mission is to inspire children of all ages and abilities to imagine, discover, and connect with their world to make a difference. The museum fulfills its mission by supporting children and families of all backgrounds and providing them with a learning experience that is inclusive and accessible to all.
DGCM is committed to making sure we are working with the unique communities found in Utah by advocating for all children, having a board of directors that reflects the communities we serve, and partnering with local organizations to ensure resources are available to those families that most need them.
We are lucky to be surrounded by vibrant communities on Salt Lake City’s west side. We celebrate the many cultures that make up our neighborhood through our exhibits and special programming that highlights important events.
We are aware that there is always room for improvement. We listen to community leaders to better understand what families need from us and are working to make sure our staff is representative of the populations we serve. We are a woman-led organization with four out of six leadership positions being held by women and we continue to make sure all voices are heard in the decision-making process.

Discovery Gateway’s programs and exhibits are designed to address the many ways that children learn, as well as to help parents understand and support their children’s development. Our engaging and interactive activities inspire creative play and learning, and fun for the entire family.
Formerly The Children’s Museum of Utah, our organization was founded in 1978 by a group of parents, educators, and community leaders who believed that children learn the best through “doing.” In 2006, The Children’s Museum of Utah moved into our 60,000 square-foot, world-class facility and officially became Discovery Gateway children’s museum.
