Rosh Hashanah Yarn Apples
Fun for the whole family
Rosh Hashanah is a Jewish Holiday that literally means “head of the year.” It is always the 1st day of the 7th month in the Jewish Calendar, which means it falls sometime in September or October.
It marks the beginning of a 10 day period of contemplation, known as the
“10 days of Awe”, and is a time for families to reflect on the past year, make amends and do good deeds. These 10 days end with another Jewish Holiday, Yom Kippur.
For many families, Rosh Hashanah includes a special meal. This meal has many parts and some are symbolic. For example. eating apples and honey represents healing and hope that the next year will be sweet. During this meal, people may use their best table linen and wear fancy new clothes.
For our Rosh Hashanah celebration, we are making these fun yarn apples! They will look great at your house and are fun, but easy enough that everyone in your family can do them together. Winding the yarn around the cardboard can be a great time for everyone to discuss their hopes for the new year.
