Steam Lab

Discovery Gateway’s STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) lab offers a wide variety of real-world, inquiry-based, participant-focused, and engaging experiences. Programs may vary from short 10-15 minute introductory activities to more in-depth family learning experiences that can last 30 to 60 minutes. Local artists, scientists, and other community partners such as the Bureau of Land Management, U of U Science Department, the Utah Museum of Fine Arts, and the Utah Division of Arts and Museums are a few of the community partners who have collaborated with the museum. We strongly believe that through interaction with STEAM exhibits and programs, participants can experience wonder, inquiry, experimentation, problem-solving, and most importantly, learning through play.

The STEAM Lab is proudly sponsored by Collins Aerospace and the Williams Foundation.

Coding Lab

Located inside the STEAM Lab, our innovative Coding Lab offers guests the chance to explore the world of coding and technology. Our instructor leads several weekly coding activities for kids as young as 3 years old. Guests can explore computer programs like Scratch Jr. to make their own animations and characters. Additionally, they can explore the principles of coding by making binary code bracelets, teaching a “robot” to make a sandwich, and much more.

Thank you to our sponsors, Adobe and Big West Oil, for bringing the Coding Lab to Utah’s children.
